Saudi Arabia extends seasonal work visa to 180 days

Saudi Arabia is going to update its regulations regarding temporary work visas for Hajj and Umrah services in an effort to provide the private sector with more flexibility.

The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development confirmed the decision, stating that the updated regulations will enable companies to better match labor market demands with visa requirements and help create a more appealing work environment, according to Visa Guide world report.

Among the update is the temporary work visa for Hajj and Umrah services, which was previously known as the seasonal work visa. The grace period for this type of visa has been extended from February 14 to July 25.

By extending their eligibility for temporary work visas, the new regulations also aim to address the desire for establishments operating during the Umrah season, according to a report from Arab News.

The Ministry Said, Penalties Will Apply If Work Visas Are Misused

Furthermore, a specific timeline for finishing visa-related procedures has been established through updated regulations.

A signed employment contract will be provided to both parties, and the Ministry emphasized the need of protection for both employers and employees in this regard. Additionally, the Ministry stated that medical insurance is a requirement for holding a visa through Saudi embassies and consulates overseas.

According to the new rules that the government of this nation has implemented, penalties will be applied for the misuse of temporary work visas.

With the recently implemented changes, businesses will have more flexibility in extending visas for an additional 90 days and won’t need endorsement to provide temporary visas, which would streamline the procedure.

The recently suggested changes will go into effect 180 days after they are approved, providing businesses time to adapt to the new system and ensuring that operations during the Umrah and Hajj season function smoothly.

Irregular Hajj Pilgrims risk Fines and Deportation.

The Saudi Arabian Ministry of Tourism declared earlier this year that any citizen of the kingdom, as well as foreign tourists and visitors, who seek to enter Makkah without a valid visa will be fined SR 10,000 (264.91 USD) in response to reports of visa misuse.

The Ministry issued a warning back then, stating that Hajj performance is prohibited for holders of visit visas of any kind due to Saudi Arabian laws and regulations.

The Ministry further stated that there will be additional penalties for anyone found in the Central Haram Area, the Holy Sites of Arafat, Mina, and Muzdalifah, as well as the holy city of Makkah, without valid Hajj permit.
